Current Status Of Dry-Type Transformer Applications

Dry-type transformers, because they contain no oil, eliminate the risks of fire, explosion, and pollution. Therefore, electrical codes and regulations do not require them to be housed in separate rooms. This reduces losses and noise levels, creating conditions for placing the transformer and low-voltage switchboard in the same distribution room.

As a crucial piece of equipment in the power systems of offshore oil platforms, the safe and reliable operation of dry-type transformers is critical to the overall operation of the power system. In the humid, salty marine environment, dry-type transformers are highly susceptible to partial discharge and localized overheating in the insulation. The application of online monitoring systems for dry-type transformers can effectively monitor their condition online, ensuring the stable operation of the power systems on offshore oil platforms.

China's annual production of resin-insulated dry-type transformers has reached 10,000 MVA, making it one of the world's largest producers and sellers of dry-type transformers. Dry-type transformers are now widely used in almost all electrical applications, including power plants, factories, and hospitals. With the widespread application of the low-noise (noise of distribution transformers below 2500kVA has been controlled within 50dB) and energy-saving (no-load loss reduced by up to 25%) SC(B)9 series, the performance indicators and manufacturing technology of dry-type transformers in China have reached the world's advanced level.
