Amorphous Alloy Distribution Transformer

Amorphous Alloy Distribution Transformer

The amorphous alloy distribution transformer uses amorphous alloy ribbon as the core material, exploiting its disordered atomic structure and low magnetization power to achieve extremely low no-load losses. The product can be manufactured as oil-immersed or dry-type, and is widely used in urban and rural distribution networks, particularly suitable for locations with long no-load hours and high energy-saving requirements.

Materials & Processes

Core

Manufactured from amorphous alloy ribbon (technology from the U.S. or Japan), with unit loss only 25% that of silicon steel. Available in planar wound core and three-dimensional wound core configurations.

01

Windings

High-quality oxygen-free copper wire; oil-immersed type undergoes vacuum drying; dry-type coils are cast with Class H epoxy resin under vacuum.

02

Tank (oil-immersed)

Corrugated tank or fully sealed construction, manufactured on automated production lines with surface pretreatment and powder coating from international brands.

03

Enclosure (dry-type)

Optional cold-rolled steel plate with powder coating, stainless steel, or aluminum alloy, with protection ratings IP20~IP54.

Key Advantages

Significant energy savings: No-load loss reduced by 60%~70% compared to silicon-steel core transformers of the same capacity. For SCBH15-1000kVA, no-load loss is only 550W, with efficiency reaching 99.6%.

Fast payback: The energy-saving benefits from low no-load losses lead to a short investment payback period.

Stable operation: Vacuum-dried active part ensures low partial discharge and stable performance.

Excellent noise control: Dry-type amorphous alloy transformers have noise levels 10~15 dB lower than current standards.

Fully sealed design (oil-immersed): Effectively isolates air and moisture, slowing oil degradation – ideal for areas with difficult maintenance.

Application Scenarios

  • Urban distribution networks: Residential communities, commercial complex distribution rooms.
  • Rural power grids: Administrative villages, farmland irrigation, township enterprises.
  • Low-voltage improvement: Distribution transformer units in areas with persistent low voltage.
  • Energy-saving retrofits: Replacement of high-loss transformers.
  • Renewable energy support: Station service transformers for PV plants and wind farms.

Packaging & Transport

Packaging

Oil-immersed types can be shipped with oil or with nitrogen filling; dry-types use dust-proof packaging.

Transport

By truck, rail, or container; large units require special transport equipment.

Storage

Temperature -25°C~+55°C, relative humidity ≤90%.

FAQ

Q1: What are the energy efficiency levels for amorphous alloy transformers?

A: According to GB20052, amorphous alloy transformers are mainly classified into three levels: S25 (Level 1, NX1), S21 (Level 2, NX2), and S15 (Level 3, NX3).

Q2: What are the disadvantages of amorphous alloy transformers compared to silicon-steel ones?

A: Amorphous alloy has a lower saturation flux density (about 1.56T), leading to slightly larger core volume for the same capacity; the material is hard and difficult to machine; and it is sensitive to mechanical stress, requiring special design to strengthen short-circuit withstand capability.

Q3: What voltage levels are amorphous alloy transformers suitable for?

A: Primarily for 10kV~20kV distribution systems, but can also be manufactured for 35kV class.
